After a very quiet pre-season The Woolpack are now preparing for the start of the new campaign, a campaign with high hopes (once again).

After finishing fifth (2 points behind forth spot Meltham) last season they should feel confident of at least maintaining that spot. Barr Street have folded and Barge Albion have gone up, leaving only Meltham (who The Woolpack beat 2-0 at the start of the season), bogey side Field Head, and relegated local rivals Helion (who were beaten 2-1 on the last day of the season). Throw into the mix two new teams, Inter Athletic and Dalton, and The Woolpack have a good competing chance.

As spring is nearing it seemed fitting to give the site a bit of a spring clean.

So as well as getting a tidier look and feel to it, the home of the Woolpack FC now has a few added features. Go to the league page and you can view the tables based on same league matches only, or click on a team and get their results and fixtures.

We also have links to each player from the stats page (which is sortable if you click on the title), which has also been cleaned out to remove friendlies.

And finally there is a nice Google Map of our pitch!

Woolpack FCThe Woolpack have been given a tough draw for their debut game in the West Riding FA Sunday Trophy against Elford FC from Leeds. The away game will take place on Sunday October 4th with the new season in full swing as three league games will already have been played.

The Woolpack open up their league campaign against new side Irish Centre Reserves away and follow it up with another new side, Meltham Victoria Park at home. Then it is a familiar face in Wellington Westgate, who The Woolpack beat 5-1 home and away last season.

Woolpack FCA few weeks back The Woolpack FC took part in a special training session run by Lucozade. They were pushed to the limits of their fitness through Premier League standard exercises. The first test was the Serpentine, which is a series of obstacles that flash either red or green, each telling the player to round the obstacle to the left or to the right. This caused lots of confusion for the players, most notably Adam Linford and Calum Campbell who ran straight into the wrought iron defender! After a few attempts to get it right the winner of the challenge was Chris Lockwood with a time of 5.431. The only other players to beat the 6 second target were Scott Dawson (5.683), Malcolm Gill (5.761), Nathan Adams (5.868) and Andy Anderson (5.881).

To make things harder the same run was done with the players needing to dribble a ball at the same time. This is where we noticed our downfalls as few players managed this to any degree of success, with Will Herbert unable to complete and Scott Dawson and Daniel Farrand (with his head down) almost clocking in 20 seconds. The winner here was Malcolm Gill with a time of 7.149, with Adam Linford in second with 7.989.

The next challenges were sprints over 10 meters and 30 metres. There were a few surprises in the short distance sprint with Luke Stanger, Jonathan Eke, Phill Rodgerson and Will Herbert beating the likes of Nathan Adams, Scott Dawson, Andy Anderson and Malcolm Gill. But over 30m it was a more predictable finish with Calum Campbell, Chris Lockwood and Andy Anderson the top three, although Luke Stanger stole forth place.

The Woolpack FC's caretaker manager Daniel Martin won the award for Top Club Secretary in Division Two at this Saturdays League Presentation night. The award came as quite a shock as it is only Martin's first season in such a position. He was very thankful for the award and put it down to his skills at paperwork and posting letters.

With The Woolpack FC's first league season complete it's time to begin looking forward to next year - although next season doesn't kick off until September! All the excuses are now out the window as we now have the experience and the squad that we need. Injured players such as Jack Dyson, Daniel Martin and James Turpin should all be returning, we will be with the likes of Will Herbert, Adam Linford, Andy Anderson and the Twins for the full season, and the likely arrivals of new players Dean Arnold, Shane Heagney and others will bolster the squad.

As well as the improved squad the likely opposition looks well within our abilities. With HD One and Helion getting promoted it has left Field Head, who we lost out to by one goal on both occasions and Woodfield Park who we have already beaten once. Then we need revenge on Walpole, who again have beaten us twice by one goal (as well as close draw), and Barr Street, who caught us out twice winning both times easily. And we can't forget The Wellington, who we managed to gain six points from.

Relegated from the first division are First Huddersfield who were very lucky to beat us at home late on in the season, and Athletico Monkey, whose game is better best forgotten!

So in summary, with the proper attitude and preparations and a bit of teamwork next season The Woolpack should be finishing further up the league - maybe even looking at promotion!

But before we begin our preparations we need to close down this season. So throughout May we have a few more things planned.
