Last season Field Head were The Woolpack's obvious bogey side after coming from behind twice to beat them. The first time, at Almondbury Rec, the Woolpack were 1-0 up half time, and after two long-range efforts they lost 2-1. Away from home the Woolpack built up a 3-1 lead but lost 4-3, with two goals in the last 5 minutes, one direct from a corner. Well today history repeated its ugly self.

At half time The Woolpack were 3-0 up through some fine goals from Arnold, Adams and Dawson. It came as somewhat a surprise however as Field Head started much the stronger side, and it wasn't until Dean Arnold scored that they got into the game. Arnold's goals was an early contender for goal of the season as he brought the ball out of defence and shot from 10 yards inside the home teams half and watched the ball smash into the back of the net off the crossbar.

On a difficult pitch (lots of loose cut grass, bobbles, and a very slippy ball) passes were going astray for both teams, so The Woolpack needed to take advantage of set pieces, and it was a huge Zac Stanger throw into the box that found the head of Nathan Adams to make it 2-0. After a penalty appeal turned down and Newburn hitting the bar, Scott Dawson hit the third after reacting quickly to a loose ball, this time from a Ritchie Hawkyard throw.

With Field Head shooting down hill second half and the wind picking up in their favour it was always going to be a tough battle, especially as they shifted their big men from defence to up front. The constant pressure was absorbed until Field Head were awarded a very dubious penalty. The referee judged that Zac Stanger held back a player from a corner, when all he did was stand strong and block the player off. The penalty was scored but had to be retaken for encroaching, and the player went the same way a second time and scored.

Soon after another penalty was awarded. This time it seemed more clear cut as Malcolm Gill made a clumsy tackle in the box, still a fairly harsh decision however. This time Stanger (playing his first game of the season) saved the penalty. But the non-stop attack, and 10 players forward for every corner and throw meant sooner or later a second goal was going to come, and it did with a header from a corner.

Field Head equalised after Stanger came charging out to collect a ball and he misjudged it allowing the striker to poke it past him. With 15 minutes to go Field Head seemed happy with the draw and sat back allowing the Woolpack to push Nathan Adams out of his second half defensive role and look for a winner. As the game levelled out and The Woolpack were if anything on top. But a quick break at the other end found Ritchie Hawkyard faced with a powerful low cross that the keeper failed to collect, he had to get a touch on it but unfortunately it went into the roof of his own net.

With only 3 minutes to go, and Sean Cosgrove down injured it looked curtains for the Woolpack and again Field Head had come from behind to win. But The Woolpack have made their pre-season target of half points from the first 4 games.
